about

The San Junipero Experience was started as a one-man venture by Balazs Specker, forged in devotion and nostalgia towards the '80s during the pandemic. The project named after the widely known Black Mirror episode quickly became his sonic VR, his remedy from the wastelands of reality in the outskirts of Budapest, Hungary. In 2021, two original tracks ('Still livin' the 80s' and 'Through space and time') were released, the latter one is featuring the LA-based sax-powerhouse Barry Parmet (Grammy award winning songwriter Dave Yaden's band). The feedback on the releases coming from renowned YT channels (e.g. The 80s Guy), radio (e.g. Kaarin Zoe Lee (Nightride FM)) and Twitch shows (Outworld Sounds - Taste of the Underground) was unambiguously positive. The second music video (by Csongor Ghyczy) even had a live premiere on one of Hungary's main TV channels.

Being a guitarist and a singer, Balazs composes all his tunes on acoustic guitar and human voice first, then translates them to the language of synthwave-pop using some real iconic synths (Moog, Yamaha DX7 etc.).

'Must Scream', the first single from the upcoming album, is about the feeling of not to be heard, caused by the alienation spreading through our society nowadays and the millions of unanswered emergency calls made by fellow human beings inside and outside the cyberspace. Lyrics were massively inspired by Harlen Ellison's short story, 'I have no mouth and must scream', with other pop-culture references (lyrics by Pink Floyd, movies like Alien, Mad Max and books such as Fighting Fantasy gamebooks etc.). Hopefully this message won't be unanswered and you are heeding the call...

lyrics

[LYRICS]

Hey, is there anybody out there?
Just PM if you can hear me!
When have you become comfortably numb?
You say: “too many voices singing”.

Quickly filling up the holes in the net
I see no space for me
Scrolling for fuel for soul through the wasteland
Under your radar I'll be.

The stream of consciousness flowing through the veins of self-pity,
In the cyberspace noone hear you when you scream.

Give me reason or illusion, an alluring cause to believe!
Yeah, I'm locked up in my own universe,
I have no mouth and I must scream!

Waiting to turn to 400
To escape the pit where I live.
Testing my luck but the dice roll poorly and I'm running out of stamina...

Give me reason or illusion, an alluring cause to believe!
Yeah, I'm locked up in my own universe,
I have no mouth and I must scream!
Oh, the freedom, not the “feardom”, a single excuse not to quit,
I've locked myself out of this world and I've definitely lost the key!

Do you copy that?
Oh, roger that!
Get me out!
Let me out!
Receive my S.O.S.!

The stream of consciousness flowing through the veins of self-pity,
In the cyberspace noone hear you when you scream.

Give me reason or illusion, an alluring cause to believe!
Yeah, I'm locked up in my own universe,
I have no mouth and I must scream!
Oh, the freedom, not the “feardom”, a single excuse not to quit,
I've locked myself out of this world and I've definitely lost the key!
Give me reason, or illusion, an alluring cause to believe!
Yeah, I'm locked up in my own universe,
I have no mouth and I must scream!

Have no mouth and must scream...
